Folsom area audiences will have one more weekend to check out the talents at work of the El Dorado Musical Theatre (EDMT) as they present their rendition of High School Musical in final trio of shows this weekend. The curtains will rise for the local performance again this Friday,Saturday, and Sunday until February 25.
In this local rendition of the iconic story, audiences will be transported to East High, where the trials and triumphs of teenage life take center stage. Troy, Gabriella, and the eclectic mix of students navigate the complexities of first love, friendship, and family while juggling the demands of academics and extracurricular activities.
The narrative unfolds on the first day back to school after winter break, as cliques reunite and the anticipation of a new year looms large. Troy, portrayed by a talented ensemble member, finds himself drawn to Gabriella, the brainy newcomer he encountered during a ski trip karaoke session.
Their decision to audition for the school musical, led by the formidable Ms. Darbus, sends shockwaves through the student body, challenging the established social order and inspiring others to embrace their talents.
Featuring an array of catchy tunes by renowned composers such as Matthew Gerrand, Robbie Nevil, and Andy Dodd, among others, the musical promises to captivate audiences of all ages. Bryan Louiselle’s masterful adaptation and arrangement of the music ensure that the spirit of the original Disney Channel movie is preserved while offering a fresh take on the beloved songs.
Since its inception in 2001, EDMT has distinguished itself as one of the premier youth theater companies in the Western United States. More than just a platform for theatrical expression, EDMT provides a nurturing environment where young performers can hone their skills, foster lifelong friendships, and cultivate confidence that extends beyond the stage.
