ORANGEVALE—The Boardwalk throws it back and turns it up as two of Sacramento’s most enduring rock bands—Emerald City and Dead in Spain—return to the stage for a powerhouse night of live music presented by 3OM Productions. This Saturday night, August 2, fans can expect a double bill packed with grit, history, and unforgettable energy.
Emerald City first roared onto the scene in the 1980s with a debut at the famed Oasis Ballroom, quickly rising to become one of Northern California’s most iconic original rock bands. Known for their melodic hooks, fiery dual guitar leads, and commanding stage presence, Emerald City packed clubs across the region while supporting national acts such as Johnny and Edgar Winter, Blue Öyster Cult, Michael Schenker, and Ace Frehley. Over the years, they’ve become more than a band—they’ve become a symbol of Sacramento’s rich rock history.
While the band performs only occasionally these days, their lineup remains as solid as ever. Dean LaRosa and Billy Haggard’s guitar work weaves harmony and power in equal measure, while the rhythm section of Shane Maes and Todd Prout drives every song with precision and thunder. Frontman Steve “Goody” Goodrich brings the voice and charisma that defined the band’s heyday—still full of fire, swagger, and soul. Fans can expect a setlist that spans classic original material and crowd favorites that helped build their legacy.
Dead in Spain
Sharing the bill is longtime Sacramento staple Dead in Spain, a band with deep roots in the city’s rock and metal circuit. Formed in 1992 by Jeff Welborn and Cliff Davis, the band took shape in the midst of the grunge and post-glam transition, crafting their own identity through a blend of hard rock aggression and melodic sensibility. When the band welcomed Christopher “Duranimal” Duran and Craig “Boomer” Boom—veterans of White Raven, a popular local cover band—they sharpened their sound and pushed forward into the next era.
Dead in Spain carved out a space for themselves as both an original band and a top-tier live act in the Northern California cover scene, drawing fans who appreciated their ability to shift between heavy originals and classic metal staples. Now with their current lineup—Duran, Boom, Randal Mercado, James Smith, and David Bass—the band is back onstage with fresh momentum. Their newest release “Millennium” brings that signature blend of heavy riffing, hook-driven choruses, and tight musicianship to modern ears.
Saturday’s show is more than a night of music—it’s a celebration of Sacramento’s rock legacy. Both bands carry decades of experience, fan loyalty, and genuine connection to the scene. Expect perfecting tuned loud guitars, anthemic vocals, and the kind of musical chemistry that only comes with time and brotherhood on stage from both shows.
The all-ages show kicks off at 8:00 p.m. at The Boardwalk, located at 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale. Guests under 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All ticket sales are final. To purchase tickets or see more upcoming events, visit www.rocktheboardwalk.com.
