Get ready to indulge in the sights, sounds, and tastes of California as the California State Fair returns to Cal Expo in Sacramento, opening its gates later this week. It all starts Friday July 12 and continues through July 28.

The California Exposition & State Fair mission is to create a State Fair experience reflecting California including its industries, agriculture, and diversity of its people, traditions and trends shaping its future supported by year-round events. New Animal Shows
The fair will showcase two new traveling attractions: “Sea Lion Splash” and the “All-Alaskan Racing Pigs.”
New Exhibits
Mind Works Exhibit: Featuring life-sized board games like Chess and Scrabble, along with various puzzle activities.
California High-Speed Rail Exhibit: Exploring the state’s transportation project.
Wild Things Exhibit: Promoting conservation efforts and displaying wildlife such as capybaras, alligators, otters, exotic birds, and reptiles.
Animation Academy Exhibit: Delving into careers in animation and storytelling techniques.
New Competitions and Showcases
BBQ Competition: Grill masters will compete to determine the fair’s BBQ champion.

The King XXL by Butler Amusements will swing fairgoers on a claw pendulum until they reach a 90-degree angle.
Frida Kahlo Play
El Bus de Frida, a theatrical play celebrating the Mexican artist, will be performed on the PG&E Center Stage on July 19 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Cannabis Lounge
For the first time at a state fair, attendees aged 21 and older will be able to purchase and consume cannabis onsite. The cannabis exhibition will include a 30,000-square-foot consumption lounge featuring products from farms and brands across the state. The lounge will be fully operational by July 14, but visitors can enjoy edibles, topicals, and beverages within the cannabis exhibit until then.

Candy Maze Selfie Experience: Featuring 14 candy-themed photo stations.
Wine Slushies: Available at the Save Mart Wine Garden.
Youth Mariachi Competition: Ten bands will compete for a chance to perform with Mariachi Los Comperos on the Golden 1 Stage on July 21.
Performances: Including Breakshop breakdancers and hypnotist Tina Marie.
Drag Queen Bingo: Returning for Out at The Fair on Saturday, July 20.
Food and Cooking Demonstrations: Hosted at the Save Mart California Kitchen.
Thoroughbred Horse Racing: Taking place at 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the Michelob Ultra Racetrack Grandstand.
Tasting Classes: Offering wine, beer, olive oil, mushroom, and cider tasting classes on Friday through Sunday at the Taste of California classroom.
Save Mart Pie Eating Contest: Always a hit among fairgoers.
