Fairgoers have a chance to enjoy the California State Fair for free while supporting a great cause, thanks to SMUD’s Giving Monday. On July 15 and July 22, those who bring five non-perishable, non-expired food items per person to the fair before 3 p.m. will receive free admission. The first 3,000 people through the gates will also receive a complimentary drawstring backpack.
“We’re proud of our ongoing partnership with the California State Fair and humbled by the generosity of our community that has shown up each year to donate much needed food to the Elk Grove Food Bank,” said Farres Everly, SMUD’s Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. “Last year, fairgoers donated 20,000 pounds of food, and this year we hope to surpass that. It’s these types of community efforts that help lift up our entire community and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
To participate, visit the booth by the Blue Gate to drop off your food items and receive your free ticket. The Elk Grove Food Bank is particularly in need of canned meat (chicken or tuna), peanut butter, Ensure, canned fruit and vegetables, soup, beans, mac and cheese, pasta, boxed mashed potatoes, packaged rice, Top Ramen, and cereal.
In addition to supporting the food bank, fairgoers can also learn about the benefits of switching to all-electric kitchen appliances. SMUD will be hosting induction cooking demonstrations in Building B, where attendees can discover the technology’s advantages for health, air quality, and energy efficiency.
SMUD, the nation’s sixth-largest community-owned, not-for-profit electric service provider, has been serving Sacramento County with low-cost, reliable electricity for over 75 years. Known for its innovative energy efficiency programs and renewable power technologies, SMUD is committed to a sustainable future with a goal of achieving zero carbon electricity production by 2030.
