Families can join the fun with the Folsom Police and Fire Departments at their annual Public Safety Trunk-or-Treat this Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the parking lot in front of the Folsom Police Department at 46 Natoma St.
Entry is free. Participants are encouraged to come in costume and collect treats while exploring police cars and fire trucks, checking out SWAT equipment, and meeting K-9s, mounted officers, patrol officers, firefighters, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers, and other first responders and frontline workers. The department requests that attendees avoid costumes that include replica weapons.
The event, held annually, provides families with a safe outing to celebrate Halloween. Parking will be available at Folsom City Hall and the nearby Folsom Community Center. The Trunk-or-Treat offers a safe, daytime alternative to traditional trick-or-treating and is especially popular with young children.
In addition, the Folsom Police Department offers these tips for families planning to trick-or-treat on Halloween night:
Be Safe; Be Seen: Choose light-colored or brightly colored costumes and consider adding reflective tape to costumes and trick-or-treat bags for visibility. Each child should carry a flashlight with fresh batteries and a glow stick for use after dark.
Make a Plan: Plan your route ahead of time. Discuss appropriate behavior with children before leaving the house. Set a meeting point in case of separation, and establish a return time for older kids.
Candy Check: Inspect all candy before children are allowed to eat it. Discard items with loose or damaged wrappers. Avoid homemade treats unless you know and trust the person who provided them.
Home Safe: When handing out treats, do not open the door for anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable. Never allow strangers into your home.
See Something, Say Something: Report suspicious activity to the Folsom Police Department at 916-461-6400.
