The Folsom Athletic Association (FAA), established in 1979, is a non-profit service organization dedicated to promoting and supporting youth athletics within the Folsom community. Founded by a group of community-driven individuals, the FAA has been instrumental in developing Folsom’s parks and recreation system. One of the FAA’s early achievements was the creation of the city’s Recreation Department, which later evolved into the Parks and Recreation Department. The organization also conceptualized, fundraised for, and constructed the 30-acre Lembi Park, inspiring the community and initiating Folsom’s health movement.
Today, the FAA comprises over 180 board members who support more than 10,000 young athletes across various youth sports leagues in Folsom. The association collaborates with the City of Folsom, the Folsom Cordova Unified School District, local businesses, and community members to enhance recreational opportunities. This partnership has led to the development of over 45 miles of scenic bike and walking trails, numerous youth sports leagues, and 47 community parks.
The FAA administers several programs to support youth athletics, including the “Never in Our Town” Youth Assistance Program, which provides financial assistance to ensure all Folsom youth can participate in community sports leagues. Since its inception, this program has served over 2,500 youths, providing more than $195,000 in assistance.
Additionally, the Adopt-A-Facility program, initiated in 1992, brings together youth sports leagues, city maintenance, and school district representatives to maintain and enhance athletic facilities within the community. The FAA also offers scholarships to high school seniors, including the Lois B. Young Scholarship and the Ken Grossfeld Memorial Scholarship, recognizing students’ dedication to athletics and community service.
Through its commitment to teamwork, fundraising, and community engagement, the FAA continues to play a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant environment for youth athletics in Folsom. For more information about the organization and its programs, visit www.folsomathleticassociation.org.
