FOLSOM, Calif. — Families and community members are invited to join a free educational event designed to combat the growing threat of human trafficking in the Sacramento region. The Keep Families Safe from Trafficking Symposium will take place this Saturday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bayside Church – Folsom Campus.

Organized by the El Dorado and Sacramento County Sheriffs, the symposium will provide attendees with crucial knowledge on recognizing the signs of human trafficking and actionable steps to prevent it. The event is a response to alarming statistics showing Sacramento and its surrounding counties rank as the fourth most prevalent area for human trafficking in the United States.

The program will feature a variety of expert speakers and presentations designed to educate and inspire action. Congressman Kevin Kiley and Congressman Tom McClintock will share insights into the legislative efforts to combat trafficking, followed by presentations from Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper and El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Leikauf on regional law enforcement strategies. A Cyber Crimes Unit detective will discuss critical online dangers, including cyberbullying, inappropriate content, sexting, child grooming, and sexual exploitation. Attendees will also hear from human trafficking detectives and participate in a powerful panel discussion featuring survivors who will share their personal stories of resilience and recovery.

In addition to these presentations, the symposium will provide a complimentary lunch, opportunities to engage with experts one-on-one, and access to on-site resources, including counselor support and educational materials.

This event seeks to not only raise awareness but also foster a united community effort to make the Sacramento region an unwelcoming place for traffickers. By increasing education, encouraging vigilance, and empowering residents with practical tools, the symposium aims to protect families and support victims in their recovery journey.
