HISTORIC FOLSOM – A timeless tale of love, luck, and lively characters will come alive on stage in Historic Folsom as Guys and Dolls opens at Sutter Street Theatre beginning March 28. The musical, a Broadway favorite known for its colorful characters and unforgettable score, will run through April 27, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 4:30 p.m.

Directed and choreographed by Sam Williams and musically directed by Connie Mockenhaupt, Guys and Dolls transports audiences to the bustling streets of a mythical New York City created by writer Damon Runyon. The story follows Nathan Detroit, a down-on-his-luck gambler desperate to fund a high-stakes craps game while dodging the local authorities and the frustrations of his longtime fiancée, nightclub singer Adelaide, who is tired of waiting after a 14-year engagement.

Meanwhile, fellow gambler Sky Masterson takes a bet that leads him to the door of straight-laced missionary Sarah Brown, and an unexpected romance begins to unfold. From the bright lights of Times Square to a Havana café and even into the city’s underground, Guys and Dolls takes audiences on a comedic and heartfelt journey that ultimately lands everyone right where they belong.

With a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows and music and lyrics by the legendary Frank Loesser, the production features classic musical numbers like “Luck Be a Lady,” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” and “Adelaide’s Lament.” The show is rated PG and is suitable for families, teens, and anyone who enjoys a good laugh and a lot of heart.
