Starting this weekend, audiences of all ages are invited to step into the snowy world of Arendelle as Sutter Street Theatre presents its latest family production, Disney’s Frozen JR., opening Saturday, June 28 in Historic Folsom.
Running through July 20, this charming adaptation of the beloved 2013 animated film—and its subsequent Broadway musical—will be performed Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 p.m., bringing to life the touching story of sisterhood, courage, and the power of love.
Directed by Mike Jimena and Lindy Mallonee, with vocal direction by Tabitha Hunter and choreography by Keira LePage, Frozen JR. features all the memorable songs fans know and love, including “Let It Go,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “Love is an Open Door,” along with five new songs written especially for the Broadway stage by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
Based on the Broadway adaptation by Jennifer Lee, Frozen JR. captures the heart of the original story while adding theatrical depth and dimension. The musical centers on the bond between Princesses Anna and Elsa as they navigate a world thrown into eternal winter. Along the way, they’re joined by iconic characters like Olaf the snowman, Kristoff and Sven, and even a few surprises that will delight young and old alike.
With its vibrant costumes, imaginative staging, and a talented cast of local youth performers, this production is tailored for the entire family. Rated for general audiences, the show offers a perfect summer outing for kids and parents alike, promising laughter, adventure, and plenty of heartfelt moments.
Sutter Street Theatre continues its longstanding tradition of showcasing community talent in an intimate, historic setting. Located in the heart of Folsom’s Historic District, the theatre has become a cultural mainstay, known for its award-winning productions and commitment to accessible performing arts.

‘Little Women’ continues at Sutter Street Theatre
While the kids take center stage in Frozen JR., Sutter Street Theatre’s main stage continues its powerful production of Little Women: The Broadway Musical. Based on the classic 1868 novel by Louisa May Alcott, this timeless tale has been captivating audiences since it opened earlier this month.
With book by Allan Knee, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, and music by Jason Howland, Little Women follows the lives and struggles of the March sisters—Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy—as they come of age during the Civil War era. The musical is both heartfelt and uplifting, celebrating ambition, family, love, and the resilience of young women facing life’s biggest decisions.
Directed by Allen Schmeltz with musical direction by Connie Mockenhaupt, the show is staged with elegance, warmth, and a spirited cast that brings Alcott’s characters vividly to life. With its rich score, memorable characters, and powerful message, Little Women continues to draw strong audiences and critical praise.
Little Women runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 4:30 p.m. through July 21, offering a perfect complement to the theatre’s youth matinee series.
