FOLSOM — Time is running out to catch one of the most beloved comedies in American theatre history as You Can’t Take It With You enters its final weekend at Sutter Street Theatre in Historic Folsom.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart has been delighting local audiences since its opening in late August, but curtain will fall for the last time on Sunday, September 14. Directed by Joaquin Calderon, with Allen Schmeltz as assistant to the director, the production has drawn praise for its mix of heart, humor, and timeless storytelling.

The story centers on Grandpa Martin Vanderhof, the whimsical patriarch of a delightfully eccentric family living just around the corner from Columbia University. When his granddaughter Alice falls in love with Tony, the polished son of a wealthy Wall Street family, worlds collide in a clash of eccentricity and high society. With fireworks, zany antics, and an unforgettable cast of characters, the play captures the simple truth that joy and love matter more than money—because, after all, you can’t take it with you.
