ORANGEVALE—Fans of progressive rock, jazz fusion, and irreverent musical brilliance won’t want to miss this weekend at The Boardwalk. On Friday, September 19, the critically acclaimed Stinkfoot Orchestra takes the stage with special guest Napoleon Murphy Brock for an unforgettable night of Frank Zappa’s music.

Formed in 2022, Stinkfoot Orchestra has quickly become one of the most respected Zappa tribute ensembles on the West Coast. With six horns, tuned percussion, four vocalists, and a lineup of seasoned players, the group tackles Zappa’s notoriously complex arrangements with precision and energy. Their shows cover more than three decades of material—from the Mothers of Invention’s early days in the 1960s to the expansive works of the 1980s—infused with humor, social commentary, and inventive stage antics.

The centerpiece of the band is none other than Napoleon Murphy Brock, the legendary multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who performed with Zappa throughout the 1970s on albums such as Apostrophe (’) and Roxy & Elsewhere. His presence brings authenticity and a direct link to the original Zappa era, making Stinkfoot Orchestra shows a bucket-list experience for longtime fans.

The ensemble has earned praise from Zappa alumni including Arthur Barrow, Ray White, Bruce Fowler, Ike Willis, and Lisa Popeil. Trombonist Bruce Fowler, who played on several of Zappa’s most beloved recordings, offered perhaps the highest compliment: “They get it.” For fans who crave the musical daring and wild energy of Zappa’s catalogue performed live, this show promises the real deal.

Stinkfoot Orchestra has built a loyal following with performances across California, wowing audiences with their blend of technical mastery and playful theatricality. Whether it’s the searing satire of “Montana,” the complex orchestrations of “Inca Roads,” or the hard-driving groove of “I’m the Slime,” they bring the full range of Zappa’s legacy to life with style and intensity.

Friday’s concert begins at 8:00 p.m. at The Boardwalk, located at 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale. The show is all ages with a responsible adult for those under 21. All ticket sales are final.
