Sunday’s lineup also features “In Skip’s Spirit,” a showcase of Sacramento’s next generation of musicians
FOLSOM — Critically acclaimed blues maverick Shane Dwight returns to Folsom’s Powerhouse Pub this Sunday for a 3 p.m. performance that promises to shake the rafters and stir the soul. A genre-defying guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, Dwight has carved his place among the most respected names in contemporary blues and roots rock—with a career spanning two decades, 3,500 performances, and praise from major publications like USA Today and Guitar World.
Loaded with his six-string and his signature swagger, Dwight fires off a mix of blues, rock, country, and soul that’s as authentic as it is electrifying. His style—part California grit, part Nashville polish—has been compared to the power of Stevie Ray Vaughan and the storytelling of Chris Stapleton. As Blues Revue Magazine put it, “It’s clear this cat can sing anything he wants.”
Dwight’s 2019 record No One Loves Me Better on Red Parlor Records remains a turning point in his catalog—an album that critics hailed as one of his most personal and cinematic. Recorded in Franklin, Tennessee, at Grammy winner Kevin McKendree’s studio, the album features an all-star lineup including Bekka Bramlett (Elton John), Kenneth Blevins (John Hiatt), and Rob McNelley (Bob Seger). The result is a rich, groove-driven sound that captures both the beauty and heartbreak of the blues.
From the heartwarming title track “No One Loves Me Better” to the defiant “Bullets & Gasoline” and the haunting “The Trial of a Poet,” Dwight’s songwriting nails life to the wall like a wanted poster—raw, reflective, and deeply human. “The story is of a misunderstood man, his trials and tribulations over the perils of whiskey, women, and the music business,” Dwight has said.
Born and raised on a ranch in Morgan Hill, California, Dwight’s path to the stage was far from easy. Diagnosed as a child with Perthes bone disease, he endured long bouts of immobility and chronic pain. Yet it was during those still moments that his passion for guitar was born—a passion that would carry him to global acclaim. He started The Shane Dwight Blues Band at 28 and never looked back, crisscrossing the country and earning his place on festival stages from Memphis to Ottawa.
Since then, he’s shared stages with legends like B.B. King, The Doobie Brothers, Joe Bonamassa, and Blake Shelton, headlined international festivals, and performed at iconic venues including the House of Blues, Bluebird Café, and even Disneyland. His breakout album A Hundred White Lies earned national radio play and glowing reviews, cementing him as one of the hardest-working independent artists in blues rock.
Now, Dwight brings that same fire to Folsom this Sunday as part of the Powerhouse of Blues series, joined by his full band—including keys, backing vocals, and a rhythm section that grooves with the force of a freight train. Fans can expect a setlist that spans his celebrated career, from early hits to newer fan favorites.
A night of community talent follows with “In Skip’s Spirit”
Following Dwight’s afternoon performance, Powerhouse transitions into a night of hometown talent with “In Skip’s Spirit” at 7 p.m.—a musical showcase honoring the legacy of the late Skip Maggiora and his renowned Skip’s Music programs.
This special event celebrates Sacramento’s up-and-coming musicians, many of whom got their start through Skip’s Music performance training. It’s a night of community, connection, and creativity—where emerging artists share the same stage that has hosted national touring acts just hours before.
Both shows are free to attend and open to guests 21 and over. Powerhouse Pub is located at 614 Sutter Street in Historic Folsom. Seating is first come, first served. Get tickets to see Dwight at www.powerhousepub.com or at the door Sunday.
