Halloween is upon us, and in Folsom that means one local business is going all out in celebrating the spooky season in spectacular cinematic style. We’re talking about none other than Bacchus House Wine Bar and Bistro, where you can now dine among a chilling cast of Hollywood’s most famous monsters through the end of the month.
Bacchus House Bistro in Folsom is known for a lot of remarkable things—from the best prime rib in town and incredible craft cocktails to live music, nostalgic Christmas décor, and charitable fundraisers. But this October, it’s become home to something truly monstrous.
An amazing exhibit of Classic Hollywood Movie Monsters has invaded Bacchus House Bistro, just in time for Halloween! Visitors will come face-to-face with the legends of cinema’s golden age—Frankenstein and his Bride, The Mummy, The Wolfman—and a special sci-fi tribute to the 1968 original Planet of the Apes starring Charlton Heston. (Remember the cliffhanger ending?)
Eric Adams, owner of Bacchus House, offers this free exhibit to the community as a way to celebrate classic film and nostalgia wrapped in a “silver screen montage of the macabre,” coinciding perfectly with Halloween and spooky season in Folsom.
“I love the classic monsters,” Adams explained. “It was the ‘Romantic era’ in Hollywood when most of these films were made—we’re talking from the early 1920s through the 1940s, which is reflected in the artwork, costuming, and craftsmanship in each of these one-of-a-kind Hollywood pieces. It’s just incredible to have such a collection to share with our community. These memorable monsters are familiar favorites, and other than being on the silver screen, they were under all our beds as children as well.”
Anyone who has been to Bacchus House knows it’s far more than a restaurant—it’s an experience. Alongside its signature dishes and vibrant atmosphere, the venue has earned a reputation for its theatrical seasonal transformations. From its sensational Wizard of Oz tribute that benefited Shriner’s Children’s Hospital to its elaborate Christmas displays that draw visitors from across the region, Bacchus House has mastered the art of bringing magic—and sometimes mayhem—to the dining table.
This year’s Halloween showcase transforms the restaurant into a nostalgic, spine-tingling walk through cinematic history. Life-sized replicas of Hollywood’s most famous monsters are displayed throughout the venue, allowing diners to relive the era of Universal Studios horror and other movie greats. If you’re uneasy sitting too close to Frankenstein’s Bride or Dracula’s piercing gaze, you can opt for a table near Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, join E.T. at the bar (but hang on to your Reese’s Pieces), or even spot a few mischievous Gremlins lurking about.
When you visit, you’ll also stumble upon a few familiar faces from the 1980s, including Medusa, E.T., and those fun, havoc-wielding Gremlins, making this monster mash a journey across generations of pop culture.
“We love doing this for the community,” said Eric Adams, co-owner of The Bacchus House, who is the humble mastermind behind the elaborate themed displays the restaurant is known for. “It’s free to come enjoy—it’s all about celebrating the season in a fun, special way.”
“While these are all technically Hollywood monsters, we have kept it family friendly,” added Adams. “Whether you are six years old or 106 years old, you will enjoy this display. These are the monsters that we all thought were under the bed when we were kids as we celebrate classic cinema of the scary nature.”
While there’s no admission cost to see the collection, those who wish can make a donation benefiting the local Hearts 4 Heroes USA organization and its Paw Platoon program, which supports first responders.
And the Halloween spirit doesn’t end there. Bacchus House will be welcoming children on Friday, October 31, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for Trick-or-Treating at the restaurant—a perfect way for families to celebrate the holiday together in a safe, festive environment.
Following Halloween, the staff will once again begin transforming Bacchus House into the winter wonderland it’s famous for. Each year, the restaurant’s elaborate Christmas décor turns it into one of Folsom’s most photographed destinations—complete with Santa sightings when he’s in town for the Folsom Police Santa Run, Historic Folsom Tree Lighting, and other holiday festivities.
Bacchus House Bistro is located at 1004 East Bidwell Street. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
