FOLSOM — He’s mean, he’s green, and this year, he’s singing his way into the holiday season. The Grinch is coming to town next week — and not to steal your stockings, but to steal the show. Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical takes the stage at Harris Center for the Arts November 6 through 9, bringing the world’s most famous holiday grouch to life in a dazzling Broadway-style production.

For those who may need a refresher on this classic Christmas tale, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! follows the story of a grumpy hermit named the Grinch who lives high above the cheerful town of Whoville. Disgusted by the Whos’ endless holiday joy, he hatches a plan to stop Christmas from coming — by dressing as Santa and stealing every gift, decoration, and crumb of roast beast in town. With his faithful dog Max disguised as a reindeer, he hauls everything up to his mountaintop cave. But on Christmas morning, instead of cries of sorrow, the Grinch hears joyful singing from Whoville below. In that moment, he realizes that Christmas is about more than presents and lights. His heart grows three sizes, he returns all the stolen treasures, and joins the Whos in celebration — finally discovering the true meaning of the holiday.

That timeless message of kindness and redemption shines in this spectacular stage version. With its playful rhymes, memorable songs, and larger-than-life characters, the musical adaptation captures everything fans love about Dr. Seuss’s beloved story — with an extra dash of sparkle and song. Max the Dog narrates the tale, recounting his master’s transformation from bitter recluse to holiday hero, while the Grinch’s scheme unfolds in a colorful flurry of music and mayhem.

Audiences will delight in the show’s well-loved songs, including “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas,” alongside original music by Mel Marvin and Timothy Mason. The show’s world-premiere cast recording remains a holiday favorite, featuring performances from the original Broadway ensemble and even a bonus recording of “Where Are You Christmas?” from the hit live-action film.

From the candy-colored streets of Whoville to the Grinch’s crooked cave, the production’s whimsical set and costumes make every scene pop with Seussian charm. It’s the perfect family outing to jumpstart the holiday spirit, offering a little nostalgia for grown-ups and pure magic for kids. As The New York Times declared, it’s “100 times better than any bedtime story” — and a reminder that even the grinchiest among us can discover joy when surrounded by love and song.

Performances at Folsom’s Harris Center for the Arts begin Thursday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m., with additional shows Friday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, November 8, at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.; and a final matinee Sunday, November 9, at 2 p.m.
