FOLSOM — The chill in the air isn’t just from November’s arrival—it’s from the freshly frozen ice shimmering in the heart of Historic Folsom, where the city’s most magical holiday tradition is ready to glide back into action. After weeks of preparation, crews are putting the final touches on the 2025–26 Historic Folsom Ice Rink, and on Thursday afternoon, the Zamboni made its first spin of the season across the newly formed ice, marking the official countdown to opening weekend.

The rink opens to the public this Saturday, November 8, ushering in another festive season of skating, music, and community cheer beneath the twinkling lights of the Historic District. Soon, the familiar sound of blades carving into the ice will echo through the plaza, blending with laughter, holiday tunes, and the scent of hot cocoa as families gather to celebrate one of Folsom’s most beloved winter experiences.

The circular rink, which wraps around the historic railroad turntable, has become a hallmark of the city’s holiday identity—equal parts nostalgia and modern wonder. Thanks to continued improvements by the Folsom Historic District Association (FHDA), skaters this season will glide over professional-quality ice framed by the plaza’s wooden railings and festive décor that perfectly captures Folsom’s small-town charm.

This year’s season promises a mix of returning favorites and fresh excitement. The rink once again serves as the centerpiece for the annual Historic Folsom Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, December 5, and Santa’s Christmas Cottage will rise nearby in the weeks ahead, giving visitors a reason to return again and again throughout the holidays.

Among the returning favorites are the popular S’mores firepit rentals—perfect for staying cozy between skates—and themed event nights that bring new life to the rink each week, from neon glows and pajama parties to movie nights under the stars.

Season Schedule and Special Events

The Historic Folsom Ice Rink will offer 90-minute skating sessions Monday through Wednesday at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m., and Thursday through Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. and running every two hours until 8 p.m.

During the Thanksgiving Break, from November 24–28, the rink will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every two hours, and during Christmas Break, from December 22 through January 1, those extended hours return to accommodate the holiday crowds.

Plan Your Visit: Hours, Tickets, and Experiences

The Historic Folsom Ice Rink season runs November 8 through January 19, giving visitors more than two months of festive fun beneath the plaza’s sparkling holiday lights. Each session lasts 90 minutes, with skating offered Monday through Wednesday at 2, 4, 6, and 8 p.m., and Thursday through Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing every two hours until 8 p.m.

For those who want to enjoy the magic off the ice, reserved fireside seating is available throughout the season. Each private fire pit seats up to ten guests and provides a cozy front-row view of the rink—perfect for sipping cocoa, roasting s’mores, and soaking in the holiday atmosphere between skates.

Groups, schools, and businesses can take advantage of private events and rink buyouts, turning the plaza into their own winter wonderland. The rink can accommodate up to 175 skaters per session, and private reservations include all four firepits, skate assists, and full access to the rink. Birthday parties, holiday gatherings, and corporate outings can be booked directly at www.folsomicerink.com.

Skating classes and special sessions also return this year. Saturday Skate School runs all season long, offering two early-morning lessons at 8:45 and 9:15 a.m., each including admission to the 10 a.m. session. Monday afternoon classes are available November 10 and 17 and return in January on the 5th and 12th. Parents with little ones can join Mommy & Me Skate, held November 11 and 18 and again January 6 and 13, which offers a gentle introduction to skating for children under five.

The rink’s first full week of operation brings a packed schedule of special events, starting with the Veterans Day $12 Tuesday on November 11, followed by Glow with the Flow Neon Day on November 13. Families can also look forward to the first Donate & Skate event on November 18, benefiting Powerhouse Ministries, where $4 from each admission supports community outreach programs. The month wraps up with the always-popular Thanksgiving PJ Party on November 27—an annual favorite where skaters hit the ice in their coziest holiday pajamas.

Skating for a Cause: Local Nonprofits Benefit from ‘Donate & Skate’ Days

This season’s Donate & Skate events return with three local nonprofits benefiting from Folsom’s generosity. On each date, $4 from every admission will be donated to a featured organization, and guests will have the chance to meet staff and learn more about their missions while they skate.

On Tuesday, November 18, proceeds will benefit Powerhouse Ministries, supporting programs that help individuals and families overcome poverty, addiction, incarceration, and homelessness. Guests are encouraged to bring gifts for the group’s “Christmas Around Town” outreach. “We are grateful to the Historic Folsom Ice Rink for partnering with us in such a fun and meaningful way,” said Nancy Atchley, Executive Director of Powerhouse Ministries. “This event gives families a chance to enjoy the holiday season together while directly supporting the transformational work happening in our community.”

On Monday, December 1, Twin Lakes Food Bank will receive donations to support its fight against hunger. “Twin Lakes Food Bank relies on community donations to serve our guests,” said Elizabeth Martin, Operations Coordinator. “This partnership with the Folsom Historic District Association is a joyful way for families and friends to celebrate together while helping their neighbors in need.”

The final Donate & Skate takes place Tuesday, January 13, benefiting the Sweet Dreams Foundation, which assists families of children battling life-threatening illnesses. Indulgence Coffee Co. will also contribute beverage proceeds to the cause.
