Auradon Prep and the Isle of the Lost come to life as Folsom High School Theatre Department stages Disney favorite

The stage at Folsom High School Theatre will burst with color, music and Disney magic this month as the Folsom High School Theatre Department presents Disney’s Descendants: The Musical, a high-energy production based on the hit Disney Channel Original Movies. The show will run over two consecutive weekends, giving local families plenty of chances to see the next generation of Disney heroes and villains in action.

Disney’s Descendants: The Musical opens Thursday, Nov. 13, with 7 p.m. performances running Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 13–15. A special matinee is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. The production returns the following week with additional 7 p.m. performances Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 20–22. All shows will take place inside the Folsom High School Theatre, and tickets are available at www.our.show/fhsdd.

Based on the popular Disney franchise, the musical follows four teens who have grown up on the Isle of the Lost, home to some of Disney’s most infamous villains. Mal, the daughter of Maleficent; Evie, the daughter of the Evil Queen; Jay, the son of Jafar; and Carlos, the son of Cruella de Vil, are invited to leave the Isle of the Lost and attend Auradon Prep, a prestigious school for the children of beloved Disney heroes. Once they arrive in Auradon, the students face a choice between carrying out an evil plan or forging their own path, discovering themes of friendship, identity and the influence of personal choice.

The musical blends catchy pop songs with vibrant choreography, energetic ensemble scenes and heartfelt moments that appeal to younger Disney fans and longtime theater lovers. The story unfolds across bold costumes, shifting environments, colorful lighting cues and a dynamic set designed to distinguish the gritty Isle of the Lost from the bright optimism of Auradon.

This year’s production places a spotlight on the artistic leadership of Folsom High School students. Senior Jovie Carr serves as the Student Set Designer, crafting the detailed worlds of Auradon and the Isle of the Lost through imaginative scenic concepts and eye-catching visual contrasts. Her work helps anchor the storytelling and provides a dynamic environment for the cast.

Choreography is also driven by student talent, with senior Kayden Malure and freshman Arisaya Dela Fuente contributing as Student Assistant Choreographers. Their work shapes the musical’s movement vocabulary, blending pop-driven steps and ensemble sequences that showcase the energy and modern style of the Descendants universe.

A cast of 53 student performers brings Disney’s characters to the Folsom stage, supported by a dedicated technical crew of 20 students handling sound, lighting, props, costumes and backstage coordination. Together, the team has spent weeks developing a polished, full-scale production that reflects the Folsom High School Theatre Department’s commitment to student-driven artistry and collaboration.

Staff say the show was chosen for its wide appeal and its ability to engage first-time theatergoers and longtime fans. With familiar characters, a contemporary soundtrack and themes rooted in personal growth and acceptance, Descendants: The Musical offers a lively, family-friendly experience for audiences of all ages.
