A recent Folsom High School graduate and her mother are celebrating success after receiving awards at Film Fest LA at LA Live last week. The moment marked a proud milestone for the mother–daughter team, who live in El Dorado Hills, as their independent micro-drama series “Legacy Lies” was awarded Best Web-TV Series during the festival’s seventh-year showcase.
Zoe Grace Rodriguez, who graduated early with the Folsom High School Class of 2025, played the lead role in “Legacy Lies,” an independently produced drama filmed in the Los Angeles area. The award also recognized her mother, Tracey Rodriguez, who served as an executive producer and the casting director for the project.
“Legacy Lies” is a scripted micro-drama series created by Executive Directors and Executive Producers Keisha and Darrin Harris along with Executive Producer Tracy Rodriguez. Written by Keisha Harris and produced under Running Time Productions, the series brings together a young ensemble cast in a story centered on family conflict, identity and the unraveling of long-held secrets.
The storyline follows Nova Torres, played by Zoe Grace Rodriguez, who moves to the community of Sterling Valley after her father accepts a position at an elite preparatory school. Nova quickly becomes entangled in a longstanding rivalry between Lark and Savannah Sterling — half sisters born on the same day to different mothers, each claiming to be their dying father’s rightful first-born heir to a $300 million fortune. As shifting alliances and buried truths collide, the fate of the Sterling legacy hangs in the balance.
Tracey Rodriguez played a central role behind the scenes as the project’s casting director, helping shape the young ensemble and guiding the performances that define the series. Zoe Rodriguez leads that cast as Nova Torres, carrying the emotional core of the story. Their work is supported by the broader production team, including Videographers Darrin Harris and Bobby Jones and Editor Darrin Harris.
The series’ principal cast also includes Jaime Adler as Lark Sterling, Zuri Miles as Savannah Sterling, Matthew Namik as Jordan Landon, Isabella Gossing as Alice Wexler and Phoebe Rodriguez as Carli Wexler. Together, the team brings to life a story rooted in fractured family ties, competing claims and the long-held secrets that drive the drama forward.

Tracey Rodriguez said the award represents a milestone she has pursued since her youth. “This is an exciting win for me. Not only is it my first television series, but being able to do it with two of my daughters made it so much more rewarding,” she said. “This has been a dream of mine to direct and produce in Hollywood since I was 15 years old! Oh… and we are already working on season 2! Follow my IG @ourlifeisatrip for real time updates.”
For Zoe Rodriguez, the award comes at an important moment in her academic and artistic journey. After completing her high school coursework a year early, she walked with her graduating class in May 2025 and also earned her Associate of Arts degree in Psychology. She now plans to continue her education in Southern California, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Journalism at a university in the Los Angeles area, positioning herself close to the film and media industry in which she is already establishing a presence.
As momentum builds following the festival award, the production team is now pitching “Legacy Lies” to networks and major streaming platforms. To keep up with where the series ultimately lands for viewing, Tracey encourages the community to follow her Instagram account at @ourlifeisatrip, where she will share updates as they unfold. Additional social media pages providing news about the series include @legacyliesseries and @zoegracerogriguez across all platforms.
