Unique event brings art, antiques, and community spirit to Historic Folsom Friday, Saturday

As local businesses and arts organizations embrace the spirit of supporting small and community-based enterprises the day after Thanksgiving Small Business Saturday, Sutter Street Theatre in the heart of Folsom’s Historic District is joining the movement with a special Plaid Friday a celebration that carries over two days this weekend. The Historic Folsom venue will open its doors Friday and Saturday for a two-day pop-up art show, vintage market, and evening reception, offering a festive way for residents to shop local while supporting the nonprofit theater.

The event runs Friday from 2 to 7 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. reception and entertainment, and continues Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., again with a 7 p.m. reception. Admission is free, and all proceeds from purchases benefit Sutter Street Theatre’s ongoing productions and youth programs.

A highlight of the weekend is an exclusive art showcase featuring award-winning local artist Mike Jimena, who will present 15 brand-new original works, including oil pieces and cartoon illustrations created specifically for this event. Jimena’s longstanding contributions to the region’s arts scene have made him a familiar name among theatre patrons and local gallery circles alike, and organizers say this is one of the most extensive displays of new material he has unveiled in recent years.

The Plaid Friday pop-up shop will also offer a variety of unique items for holiday shoppers, including antiques, vintage clothing, costumes, tools, and original artwork and prints. Attendees can browse an eclectic mix of theatre-related props, décor, and memorabilia, along with curated pieces from local collectors. Staff and volunteers say the event gives the community a chance to take home something meaningful while directly supporting the theater’s mission.

The Friday and Saturday evening receptions include entertainment, light refreshments, and opportunities to meet the artists and theatre team. Organizers encourage those attending to come early, explore the displays, and enjoy the seasonal energy flowing through Historic Folsom as the holiday season kicks in.

The event takes place inside the Sutter Street Theatre at 717 Sutter Street in Historic Folsom. Parking is available throughout the district, and the venue is a short walk from the Historic Folsom parking garage.
