Folsom Concert Association’s January matinee spotlights the musicians behind country’s biggest hits

Country music fans are in for a hit-filled afternoon when The Hit Men of Country arrive at the Harris Center for the Arts on Jan. 4, bringing with them decades of Nashville history, chart-topping songs and insider stories from the road.

Presented by the Folsom Concert Association, the show features five elite musicians whose careers have placed them on stages and in studios alongside some of the most recognizable names in country music. Collectively, the group has toured or recorded with artists including Lee Greenwood, The Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, Wynonna, Pam Tillis, Travis Tritt and Jason Aldean, among many others.

Rather than a tribute act focused on a single artist, The Hit Men of Country deliver a sweeping celebration of modern and classic country, performing one familiar favorite after another. Audience members can expect to hear songs such as “God Bless the U.S.A.,” “Somebody Like You,” “Big Green Tractor,” “I Swear” and “No One Else,” all performed by the musicians who helped bring this music to life on tour and in the studio. Between songs, the group shares backstage stories and personal memories from years spent alongside country music legends, offering a rare, behind-the-scenes look at life on the road.

The band’s lineup reflects the depth of that experience. Keyboardist and vocalist Doug Carter has toured extensively with Lee Greenwood, the Gatlin Brothers, Crystal Gayle, Debbie Boone, Pam Tillis and the Bellamy Brothers, while also producing records for Grammy and Gospel Music Award-winning artists from his Nashville base. Electric guitarist and vocalist Jayson Chance is a third-generation professional musician who has worked as a guitarist, vocalist or music director for Gretchen Wilson, Ty Herndon, Thompson Square, Tyler Farr, Tracy Lawrence, Montgomery Gentry, Jamie O’Neal and many others.

Acoustic guitarist and vocalist Jeff Zona gained early recognition in Guitar Player magazine at age 19 and has since toured with Lee Greenwood, David Ball, the Bellamy Brothers and Lorrie Morgan, with television appearances that include the Grand Ole Opry, TNN and CMT. On drums, David Northrup brings one of the most versatile résumés in the group, with credits ranging from John Mellencamp and John Waite to Wynonna, Travis Tritt, Joe Diffie, Tanya Tucker and The Oak Ridge Boys. Rounding out the lineup is bassist and vocalist Don Mott, a former U.S. Marine and member of the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden Gate, whose career includes work with Mark Wills, Wade Hayes and the late Kevin Sharp.

The Jan. 4 concert begins at 2 p.m. at the Harris Center for the Arts. Tickets start at $42 and are available through the Harris Center box office HERE.  .

The performance is part of the long-running concert series presented by the Folsom Concert Association, a nonprofit founded in 1995 that has presented more than 140 concerts over the past 30 years. In addition to offering what it describes as the most reasonably priced concert series in the region, the association directs proceeds toward bringing live music to senior residential communities, awarding college scholarships to local high school seniors and refurbishing donated musical instruments for students in need.
