Broadway phenomenon brings the music, power and legacy of the Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll to the Harris Center Jan. 15–18

For local fans of the late Tina Turner, this week promises something simply the best. After months of anticipation, TINA – The Tina Turner Musical opens Thursday night in Folsom, launching a four-night run at the Harris Center for the Arts and bringing the music, story and unstoppable spirit of the Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll to the local stage. The acclaimed production runs Jan. 15 through Jan. 18, 2026, as part of its ongoing North American national tour.

The arrival of TINA – The Tina Turner Musical marks a major moment for regional theater audiences, offering a powerful and deeply human look at the life of one of music’s most influential artists. The production traces Turner’s journey from her early beginnings to her rise as a global superstar, capturing the resilience and determination that allowed her to overcome racism, sexism and ageism while redefining rock ’n’ roll along the way.

Written by Tony Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize winner Katori Hall, with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, the musical is directed by Tony Award nominee Phyllida Lloyd. The North American tour is produced by Crossroads Live North America and follows the Broadway production that earned 12 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. Since launching its current tour in October 2025, the show has continued to draw enthusiastic audiences and critical praise across the country.

The touring cast is led by Darilyn Burtley in the role of Tina Turner. A Chicago-born actor and vocalist, Burtley brings commanding presence and vocal power to the role, with a career spanning theater, television and concert stages. Her credits include performances with Lyric Opera of Chicago and appearances on the television series Chicago P.D. and The Chi. Burtley is joined on tour by Monty Kane as Ike Turner and Ronnie Turner, K. Bernice as Zelma Bullock, India Shelbi Boone portraying Tina Turner at select performances, Eva Ruwé as Gran Georgeanna, and Eleni Kutay as Rhonda Graam and Toni Basil.

Supporting the principals is a large, high-energy ensemble that drives the production’s momentum through choreography and movement. The creative team behind the show includes choreography by Tony Award nominee Anthony van Laast, set and costume designs by Tony Award nominee Mark Thompson, music supervision by Alvin Hough Jr., lighting design by Tony Award nominee Bruno Poet, sound design by Tony Award nominee Nevin Steinberg, and orchestrations by Tony Award nominee Ethan Popp. Together, the team creates a visually striking and sonically powerful experience that mirrors the intensity of Turner’s life and career.

Audiences attending the Harris Center performances can expect to hear many of Tina Turner’s most iconic songs woven throughout the production, including “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “Proud Mary,” “Nutbush City Limits,” “The Best,” and “River Deep – Mountain High.” The musical has captivated more than eight million theatergoers worldwide and is widely praised for its emotional depth, explosive energy and triumphant storytelling.

One of the best-selling artists of all time, Turner won 12 Grammy Awards and left an indelible mark on music and popular culture. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 with Ike Turner and later honored again with a solo nomination in 2021. Her influence continues to resonate across generations, and the stage production serves as a tribute to her enduring legacy, strength and unmistakable voice.

Originally produced by STAGE Entertainment, TINA – The Tina Turner Musical premiered in London’s West End in 2018 before opening on Broadway in 2019 and expanding to international productions across Europe and Australia. The West End production concluded its run in September 2025, while the North American tour continues to bring the celebrated musical to audiences nationwide, including its long-awaited stop in Folsom.
