After original planned 1 year hiatus, organizers now target 2027 for return of popular country music event

The once popular GoldenSky Country Music Festival at Sacramento’s Discovery Park will remain off the calendar for a second straight year, with organizers confirming Wednesday that the 2026 event is not going to happen.

It’s a continuation of the hiatus first announced in 2024, when producers Danny Wimmer Presents postponed the 2025 edition of the popular Sacramento festival due to difficulties securing top-tier country artists. Now, fans will have to wait even longer—until 2027—for a potential return.

“We’ve made the decision to take one additional year to ensure that GoldenSky returns at the right time and at the level our fans, artists and partners expect,” Danny Wimmer Presents said in a statement posted Wednesday. “Our goal is to return in 2027, and we appreciate your continued support.”

Launched in 2022, GoldenSky quickly became Sacramento’s largest country music festival, drawing more than 60,000 fans annually to Discovery Park and generating nearly $10 million in local tourism revenue, according to Visit Sacramento. Produced in partnership with the city’s tourism bureau, the festival brought in major headliners, food and drink vendors, and fans from across the West Coast.

GoldenSky will not return in 2026.

Last year’s cancellation was attributed to what organizers called an oversaturation of country music festivals in the U.S. market, which made it increasingly difficult to lock in top-level talent. The extension of the break suggests that those market conditions have yet to improve.

GoldenSky is produced by the same team behind Sacramento’s successful Aftershock Festival and has been an anchor event for the region’s fall music season. The Aftershock Festival is already scheduled to return Oct. 1-4, 2026.
