Classic hip hop and R&B hits lead into a blues-filled Sunday with Mitch Woods in Historic Folsom

A night of throwback beats and dance-floor anthems will take over Historic Folsom Saturday as Adam Aldama & The Aces headline Throwback Hip Hop & R&B Night at Powerhouse Pub.

The March 7 performance begins at 10 p.m., bringing a live-band spin to the songs that once dominated radio stations like 102.5 KSFM and 130.5 The BOMB. Known for their high-energy stage presence and crowd-focused performances, Aldama and his band transform classic hip hop, R&B and pop hits into a full live concert experience designed to keep audiences moving all night long.

Saturday’s show centers on the tracks that defined a generation, from 90s staples like “California Love,” “Regulate,” and “Return of the Mack” to early 2000s hits including “In Da Club,” “E.I.,” “Feelin’ Myself,” and “Blow the Whistle.” The band’s approach blends tight musicianship, strong vocals and a polished stage production that recreates the energy of the era’s biggest club and radio hits.

Frontman Adam Aldama has become a familiar name across Northern California’s live music scene, known for building performances around audience participation and nonstop movement. Whether delivering throwback hip hop grooves, R&B singalongs or crossover pop favorites, the band’s sets are structured to keep the dance floor packed while tapping into the nostalgia of an era when these songs dominated car stereos, clubs and airwaves.

The Saturday celebration begins earlier in the day when Roni & The Flight take the stage for the Saturday Afternoon Dance Party at 3 p.m. The Sacramento-based old school classic rock band performs a mix of familiar favorites designed to keep the dance floor active throughout the afternoon. Their upbeat delivery and crowd-friendly setlists have made them a regular draw for audiences looking for a daytime live music experience in Historic Folsom.

Saturday’s combination of afternoon classic rock and late-night throwback hip hop creates a full day of entertainment inside Powerhouse Pub, continuing the venue’s reputation as one of the region’s busiest nightlife and live music destinations.

The weekend then shifts gears Sunday afternoon with Powerhouse of Blues featuring Mitch Woods at 3 p.m. Woods and His Rocket 88s have spent more than three decades carrying forward the tradition of American jump blues, blending the high-energy piano style and horn-driven sounds that helped shape early rock ‘n’ roll.

Drawing inspiration from the jump n’ boogie outfits of the late 1940s and early 1950s, Woods modeled his group after artists such as Louis Jordan, Wynonie Harris, Joe and Jimmy Liggins, Amos Milburn and Roy Milton. Their music captures the lively spirit of the era’s shoutin’, honkin’ and rhythm-driven performances while infusing the sound with elements of New Orleans rhythm and blues.

With his signature piledrivin’ piano style and playful songwriting, Woods has helped introduce generations of listeners to the roots of rock and blues. The band’s signature sound — which Woods calls “rock-a-boogie” — merges vintage influences with contemporary energy, creating performances that are equal parts musical history and lively entertainment.

Over the years, Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88s have built an international reputation as torchbearers of this classic American musical style, performing for audiences around the world while continuing to keep the spirit of jump blues alive.

The Sunday afternoon performance offers a lively close to the weekend lineup at Powerhouse Pub, bringing together fans of blues, rhythm and early rock traditions for a show steeped in musical heritage.

Powerhouse Pub is located at 614 Sutter Street in Historic Folsom. All events are 21 and over. Tickets and full event details for all shows are available at www.powerhousepub.com.
