Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day and  Riley’s on Sutter is gearing up to host a celebration of the Irish spirit with the addition of live Celtic music. Located in the heart of Folsom’s Historic District at the corner of Riley and Sutter Streets, the restaurant welcomes a well-known music duo known for their love of Irish song.

Arbroath Celtic Music will take the stage at Riley’s on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m., offering patrons a delightful accompaniment to their dining experience. The duo, based in Sacramento, is renowned for their high-energy performances of Scottish traditional and modern folk music, sung in English, Scots, and Scottish Gaelic. Lead singer and songwriter Douglas McLean, along with his wife Roxy, formed the duo, showcasing their mutual passion for their Celtic heritage.

McLean’s musical journey traces back to 1990 when he began performing as part of the duo “Dewar and McLean” alongside Linda Dewar. After releasing the album “Seeds Upon the Wind” in 1996, McLean ventured into solo performances, gracing stages at various Scottish Games and Festivals across California. In 2010, he released his solo album “Highland Prophecy” before joining forces with his wife to establish Arbroath in 2011. Originally a five-person ensemble, the band reformed as a duo in 2017, showcasing Doug’s talents on vocals, guitar, bodhran, and dulcimer, while Roxy contributes on bass guitar, keyboards, and penny-whistle.

“Sometimes McLean writes the words and music about a book or a story he read, other times he likes to put the words of Scottish poets to music, and occasionally he will be inspired to write words to a tune,” reads their bio. “Whether singing a heartfelt Gaelic love ballad or a Scottish battle song, his music resides at the heart of Celtic culture.”

Admission to Sunday’s performance at Riley’s is free for patrons, with no additional cover charge. Riley’s on Sutter, a family-owned American restaurant, boasts a welcoming atmosphere catering to families and good times.
